The thing with the gaming industry is that it has this cult that once one is in, it needs to think twice in leaving, after winning the previlidge to be in at all.
So people put up with lots of crap to keep in the game (pun intended).
Peak example of "Frat-Boy/Bro Culture". Funny thing is they were lecturing others, 'virtue-signalling' while this stuff was happening within the company for many years.
Reading the headline is wild because, that just sounds like fun depending on the kind of culture you want to foster (not alcoholism, but a “fun” environment).
I must admit; there are definitely companies like this that I’ve worked at, very free “anti-professional” vibe where it’s totally acceptable to have a lax attitude to rules as long as you’re not hurting anyone.
I think the people might not understand that a large part of what makes that culture work is mutual respect.
The blurred line between professional and personal which is the root of the “anti-professional” environment makes people feel at ease with some hurtful comments, likely because they don’t even believe them to be hurtful.
As mentioned, I have worked in these environments and personally I wasn’t a huge fan and always acted more professionally there than in normal professional environments.
But, I’m also guilty of making comments which taken out of context sound awful. So maybe I’m biased.
