What I really need is a .DS_Store in every directory on my Mac

I don't get how Apple got this so wrong, and how they continue to get it wrong, even after getting the change to fix it when moving from HFS+ to APFS.
It greatly speeds up graphical display of the directory contents. Windows 10 can take a really long time re-generating thumbnails every time you open a directory filled with images or videos.
So does the ~/.cache and ~/. thumbnails directory on Linux, but at least all the thumbnails are kept away from the main body of data.
I agree, lots of stupid things they never seem to fix on Mac OS, and every version of the system adds more useless cruft. Long for the days with a no-new-features release where they actually go and make things good.
