While this is a trollish way of putting it, it seems to have some merit.

What good is a 60% discount compared to free?

Especially given that the exercise of properly self-hosting email yourself from your home is somewhere between very challenging and impossible?

Google kind of seems like some jerks for pulling the carpet out from under us during the pandemic, after happily getting us hooked for 14 years.

Can't the Googlers, with their massive brain power, automate the email service completely so nobody has to think about it ever again? Why does every previously net-good thing that Ruth Porat finds need to be milked dry? The cow grows increasingly thin and tired.

My family already pays annually for a MS 360 subscription, and I'm likely to move the old G-Suite account and domain there later this spring. Any Google solution that doesn't include custom domains is a non-starter.
Asked a support rep, only for the first year and it will revert to normal prices
