Favorite Note Taking Tool

I just read the article "the fall of roam" here on HN. The author talks about abandoning the ROAM app- I abandoned it after an hour of use. Question; whats your favorite way to take notes- and how often do you revisit them?

pencil & paper

for specific contexts, I like obsidian

I WANTED to like notion... but capturing notes on the go from mobile is unpleasant and you can't check your notes if you lose internet access...

Thanks

I tried Obsidian when it came out and had the same issue I had with roam- I dont see the payoff for all the convoluted ways you need to enter notes. I'm curious, what were your use cases for obsidian?

pencil paper + google keep ( because of OCR )

taskpaper for notes and todos https://www.taskpaper.com/

Thanks. I went to Taskpaper and realized it was mac app- I work on Linux. That looks cool though.
A good notebook and pen.
always the best option. So how do we sole that digital divide between what makes a pen and paper great and the next note taking app?
I don't know if self hosting is an option for you, but recently I deployed Trilium (https://github.com/zadam/trilium) on a personal server.

It's really easy to set up with docker and I'm amazed at the wealth of features.

I use it on desktop and mobile too without issues.

Thanks. I'll have to try that again. When it came out, I had problems installing it.
Standard Notes. Can't recommend it enough. Does one thing well, and uses encryption unlike other offerings like Evernote. I revisit it every two weeks or so to make sure I executed on my TODO lists. I'm often surprised at how much I manage to get done in two weeks.
I tried standard notes. That app.image kept crashing on opensuse. not sure what the deal was. It looks great. I had really high hopes for it.
