Ask HK: How to transition to modern RDMS web dev from Claris FileMaker?

As a FM Dev, I understand relational databases well but have been trapped in the comforts FM offers which are a single GUI tool that allows super easy development but then locks me in with yearly subscription costs. What modern things should I learn? React+framework or just raw code?
