Ask HN: Has mask wearing affected your lip-reading?

5 points by ghastmaster ↗ HN
I use lips frequently to supplement my hearing loss. I frequently have to ask people with masks to repeat what they just said.

It dawned on me today that there are people who rely on lip-reading to communicate, and have probably struggled the past two years. What if anything have you been able to do to help?

I did wonder this too (with some sadness )

I heard of some people who created a mask with a transparent strip to allow for this.

Also remember South Korea using masks that are transparent during election time.

Not sure about the traction any of these have got though.

I have slight hearing problems too. It's been a nightmare for me as I partly rely on lipreading and I haven't been able to so I've been having to ask people to repeat themselves a lot.
