People in Petrópolis , a Brazilian recently struck by landslides, are using a public gdocs spreadsheet to coordinate the distributions of donations to victims.
As many people lost their houses, they are sheltered in schools and churches. Because of this people started using this spreadsheet to coordinate the donations of food, clothing and hygiene products - the motivation is the lack of trust in authorities.
I found this case interesting, because it shows that there's space for a "smart cities" (or should I saw, "smart citizenship"?), for applications that help prevent, notify and coordinate relief during natural disasters.
