Ask HN: How to Move into Deep Tech?

2 points by bckr ↗ HN
I'm a backend engineer doing fairly standard CRUD development in Python, serving enterprisey customers.

Imagine that I wanted to move into another area where I get to work with robots, biotech, space tech etc. on a regular basis.

Can you give an example of how you would / did go about making this shift? Any common pitfalls? Should I just go for it?

Thank you

Excellent question. I kinda faced this issue my whole life.

Right now I'm pursuing a position in Big Tech where I at least hope to be doing more challenging / relevant work.

Thanks for your response! Want to chat more about our pursuits? I'm anthony at yesrobo dot net
The grass is greener on the other side... but I think a mix if both (CRUD + Deep Tech)is good for health! I have been doing deep tech (if you call kernel programing that..) for about 20 years and have recently moved to CRUD weby stuff and I feel the massive potential of it to impact business, start something of your own (SAAS) really heady.
thanks for sharing your experience! Yes, the grass is greener... and I'm green enough that I must have a look!

I agree about the potential of SaaS. If I can find the right culture fit, I'm down to stay in SaaS for a while.
