This is definitely a problem for me. To be honest, I even have trouble remembering what happened on the week’s prior episode. (I consume so much media that it kinda just blurs together.) Anymore, I will typically wait for a full season to be released before watching it so I can consume it all at once. Otherwise I forget too much and end up feeling like I watched something just to watch it.
There’s something to be said about theorizing and discussing predictions about ‘next week’s episode’ for some shows. But the vast majority of shows I watch are full-season binges for me.

I tend to prefer self contained shows, like South Park. Unless I'm going to binge the entire season at once.
10 seasons of "Doc Martin" [0] have taken 18 years to produce and air.
