I think this old proposal contains some interesting ideas, such as:

“2.5 Mapping of version 4 numbers

Initially, all existing Internet numbers are defined as belonging to the NSF/Internet AD, number 192.0.0.”

This means you could keep your assigned IPv4 address if you already have one, and wouldn’t need two separate addresses, right?
