Ask HN: What do you think about Salesforce's acquisitions?

5 points by momofuku ↗ HN
Pretty much the title. I occasionally forget that both Heroku and Slack are owned by Salesforce. Is there any particular reason why Salesforce does not try and integrate them closer into their platform/brand identity? Other acquistions that come to mind are Google acquiring products like YouTube, integrating it with Google+ login back in the day, Microsoft with Skype, Facebook with Oculus/WhatsApp/Instagram. Any reason why Salesforce treats its acquisitions "differently"?

Some of the things they've purchased, such as Slack, Tableau and Mulesoft, already had Salesforce integrations.

They probably can't run their main app on Heroku, but they mention one app that's using it: https://www.heroku.com/salesforce

Wow...I didn't know they acquired Tableau as well. Seems like they do a pretty good job with not changing the brand identity?
