The trade-off for false positives are false negatives...
Both can be deadly. Choosing the right balance is critical for safety. But false negatives won't get reported on twitter or hurt the cars reputation.
I'd therefore be very wary of pressuring a car company to do something about false positives when they might just adjust the threshold and end up killing far more people to prevent PR damages.
Cars are weird. If my car breaks when I don't want it to, and I believe I'm a better driver than the car is...then maybe I don't want that feature at all. But if someone is about to crash into me and their auto-break could have stopped it, then I do want that feature in their car.
