Ask HN: Are del.icio.us style domain names not accepted at all?

With enough money, companies buy company.com.

Without, they usually go with getcompany.com, usecompany.com, companyhq.com, companyapp.com etc. but nobody seems to bother using c.ompany.com or co.mpany.com.

Without considering other TLDs (.co, .app, etc.) and domain hacks (del.icio.us itself counts as one, but here it's to make a point), what do you think is the reason of this?

It was cool when companies initially did that. Now? Does the average person even type in urls? They probably click on a link. Who cares what the URL is then.
True. Domain names faded away as a visual identity, replaced by logos, even though some are just stylized text.
