Ask HN: What is the best way to monetize a tech blog?

6 points by codingspot ↗ HN
I'm struggling in blog monetization. I have around 2000 page views per day and AdSense is enabled. The revenue per day is something around 0.15$ which is nothing. Any advise or support is highly appreciated.

Try to provide affiliate marketing for well-known products and services to boost your revenue
I will try to learn about this topic
If you've managed to build trust with your audience (like, they subscribe to your newsletter and read it eagerly), you could sell them another fix for their problems (like a book, workshops or software)
so you don't count on google AdSense to monetize your blog?
My guess is that tech savvy audience will use Adblock mostly, hence Adsense revenue might be low for tech audience
I understand, Thx. But my experience is focusing on software technology and I'm new to blogging. I will try to learn what can be done to improve the revenue
A few ideas that I've seen out in the wild: - Engage with your most consistent readers and find out what makes them such big fans. Use that to create premium/paid content. - turn into a paid newsletter (or paywall for the blog). Keep some content free but write additional content for paid subscribers. - add a premium content tier that could include: slack community, monthly "mastermind" or guest events, job board access, etc - turn each article into a podcast episode, youtube video, twitter thread, etc. to earn more advertising revenue and/or grow audience
Thx for sharing the ideas. I'm new to blogging, I don't think the premium subscription will work in my case. Maybe turning the articles to YouTube videos would be good in my case.
Sling products you sell directly, instead of allowing other advertisers distract your audience with off-topic products. Simple Logo T-Shirts, Stickers, anything than improves brand loyalty - consider what value you're offering with your blog, and capitalize on that.
