Let's say you have a Git repo. Now, what if your laptop and all your mobile phones disappear? (Maybe you're travelling and your car takes a turn down into a river.)

Then, remembering a trusted hash of your Git repo, might be convenient (depending on where the Git repo mirrors are kept and who has access).

Or maybe for some reason you'd like to save a hash of a text you wrote, or something.
