Shame TikTok monetization incentivizes more views, which will certainly favor shorter content.
10 minute videos on the current video player? I find it so interesting that mobile video players have chosen to get worse. TikTok and Instagram don't have volume adjustment from what I know (on desktop at least) and you can only pause and play. To restart or rewind, you just have to wait. Why can't I have a progress bar? Even YouTube Shorts (their TikTok competitor) doesn't give you a progress bar on mobile, and they already have a fine mobile player.
TikTok actually added a progress bar to longer (1 minute plus?) videos in a recent update. It’s still frustrating to not have it for shorter ones, but better than nothing I suppose.
I can see why people would demand this, but this is a case where taking your users demands literally will have negative second-order consequences. Namely, an unwanted interaction with the creativity of constraints.[1] Size/space constrains on medium typically imply higher signal to noise because editing to meet those constrains cuts out noise.

Where do they store all these? How much storage space does it take? Is it sustainable forever? Is there a simple napkin math online to lookup for? I am always puzzled how they handle storage with billions of videos
Why is it that social media platforms seem to invariably deviate from the thing that made them successful and different?(*) Micro-blogging platforms adding long-form posting features, long-form video platforms giving 10 second clips a go, short-form video platform increasing video length...

The lack of originality in this field is astounding.
