I wish there was an authoritative guide about eating healthy, there seems to be too much contradicting information in this space.
There are no simple answers because it depends on your genes, the quality of the food, and more. There's a lot of searching for data to support a thesis, see the sugar industry attacks against fat and salt.
I highly recommend checking out Canada's Dietary Guidelines.

One of the only countries that created their nutrition guidelines based on the preponderance of evidence from high-quality studies and without influence from any food industry lobbies.

The illustration on the main page alone gives you a good representation of how your typical meal should look like.

If most people followed a diet close to these recommendations, then I expect health at a population level would significantly improve.
