Utter poppycock! Jackalopes don't have horns, they have antlers.
Not far from my neighborhood outside of Philadelphia, there is the Jackalope Research Institute [1]. I've often wondered what goes on in there, whether it is some eccentric would-be-scientist, tax dodge or money laundering scheme, or front for the KGB.

This site needs submitted for an UI design award.
Apparently it's by a children's book author: https://www.amazon.com/Bruce-Larkin/e/B002P53NXE

Based on http://brucelarkin.com/about-bruce-larkin/ he seems like a funny guy.

https://www.wilbooks.com is apparently his main site. I bet the address there might match up with the JRI.

It does. The names of both concerns are (maybe were - been a few years since I passed by) on the sign in front of the building. I always wondered about the place, but looking it up slipped my mind.
When I was a teen my family took a road trip through South Dakota. They've got "trophies" of them them everywhere, restaurants, gas stations. It's a big thing.

My sister who was maybe 6 at the time swore up and down that she saw one on the drive. We all just said "Really?!" and laughed on the inside - didn't want to kill the joke.

To this day, some twenty years later, we still like to tease her about seeing a jackalope.

The German version of this is called „Wolpertinger“
Also known regionally as Raurackl, Oibadrischl, Kreißl, Rasselbock, or Dilldapp. The German species sometimes features wings and/or duck feet, as well.
