heck this is a bummer. My initial mortgage deal wasn't great, with me paying mortgage insurance every month. Now I won't be able to re-finance.

I'm in the same boat and was hoping to refinance down the road as well. This is disappointing, but at least we have a roof over our heads.

Yeah, I had a great real estate agent in Portland who really encouraged me to get a payment I could afford long-term. Bizarrely inflation might be good for me: if my pay keeps increasing by 5-10% every year the relative size of my mortgage and the payment will shrink
