I agree with Peter Greene, in the context of Denver Public Schools, where my kids attend school, big, standardized testing doesn't work.

But the problem with US schools is that there's no uniformity. There's this thing called "home rule", where every state sets its own standards, but every school district, and there's a lot per state, sets the actual curriculum and testing standards. There's absolutely zero uniformity. Curriculum and standards vary so much as to be incomparable.

If the USA had a national school system, with national standards and curriculum, this article would be relevant. In context, this article makes no sense. It's just pandering to more panics about student achievement etc etc etc.
