Website for Ukrainians to find shelter, get evacuated and find missing people

9 points by MD3XTER ↗ HN
Today I launched a website for Ukrainian citizens to find a shelter, to receive help in case they need evacuation or to find lost people.

If you can, please share so we can help read more citizens in need: https://with-humanity.vercel.app

In the future, I will add more features.

Thanks a lot!

Thanks for doing this.

Just a few small pieces of feedback:

It is not immediately obvious that "Send request" is also to be used for people _offering_ shelter, until you scroll down to question 4 in the form. Suggest either rewording the button to make it clear that it is to be used for both, OR adding another button like "Offer Shelter"

Some people may be hesitant to have their phone numbers publicly listed. I understand that in a life or death emergency there often isn't an option to worry about data privacy. But as someone in a position to offer shelter, I don't think I'd be comfortable just having my number be public on a website like that. Could there be an option to just list an email address, and then exchange further contact details from there?

It is really great to have the Ukrainian translation in the form. If you have the bandwidth, I might suggest adding Russian as well since Ukraine has many Russian speakers. Happy to help on this one if you need any assistance.

I would love to know a bit more about what the approval process is. You mention request approval in the form, but what does that entail? Just checking that it isn't obvious spam, or are there some other aspects taken into account?

Just a thought, nothing fully formed: I am curious if you plan to reach out with this to local embassies or humanitarian orgs, since I think quite a few may also be organizing similar things. There is a local org in my country that is collecting this type of information through a Google Form and then matching people by hand (I think). I wonder if this could serve as a useful tool for different orgs trying to match housing with those in need somehow.

Wow, thank you so much! You feedback is really great, you made a very good point about the "open request" button.

I think I will create 3 different forms for each request and will add Russian too.

The verification is mostly for filtering spam, as soon as I see the request, I add it instantly to the database, that's all.

I didn't think about reaching to embassies as I think it might be hard to reach them and manage projects, maybe there is so much bureaucracy, idk... If you have suggestions, please let me know!
