Fixation? A million deaths in the US alone? Perhaps 10s of millions of hospitalizations, and widespread long term illness and suffering? What else could it fixate on?
Perhaps the secondary consequences of the actions take to allegedly avoid deaths, which may or may not have actually avoided deaths, but most assuredly and profoundly affected children in a negative way. Especially poor children.
We should have focused on that. We should have found any way possoble to not blight a generation of children on the basis that grandmothers who would die in 18 months may die in 12 months instead. It may sound harsh, but that’s what we should have done.
