“Another tool that has become important for Ukrainians in their fight is the Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicle - a Turkish-made drone that can carry small anti-armor weapons. ”

So much has been said about the Polish MIGs, but drones seem like a more effective tool. Hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands in all shapes and sizes.

Information gathering as well to remove the fog of war.

Drone GPS coordinates can be used to make low precision weapons more accurate.

It's mostly because of the inability of Russian SAM to detect those.

Bayraktar slowlyness seems to be a feature in that regard + it can fly high enough, which helps.

It can also carry 4 missles, which isn't much and needs radio contact, which i thought could be blocked.

But weirdly enough, that's not happening.

> But weirdly enough, that's not happening.

That has become the defining feature of this conflict. Russian callousness mixed with Ukrainian chutzpah makes this war unique.

Let’s not forget that this uniqueness means more pain and death for the civilian population of Ukraine. Russia’s incompetence is killing Russian soldiers and Ukrainian civilians, since it seems they moved on to attacking them.

I am very aware of that. I'm just stating what i think, which is unrelated to the cruelness of this all.

The cruelty is what Putin's Russia forced others to comply to their conditions in the past, by literally violating every human norm possible and continueing this, while saying they want to "talk". Especially during so called "ceasefire" peace talks. It's despicable.

They are most lethal in combination with long range artillery.. this was the deadly recipe that helped erdogan to "win" against kurds in syria. Scout, shoot, scout more, shoot again.. with enough experience the artillery can even shoot "with prediction" at the location the goal will be at in x seconds.
Any source on this? I knew about the relative success, but was unaware of the combo with artillery ( although it makes sense)

I think it was this one, but there was also one in Forbes. The whole benefit of the drone as artillery eyes, comes into full view, if one reads up on modern artillery.

Drones do not have to carry the weapons, thus have more room for spare tanks, thus can circle longer.

Artillery has virtual salvos now (if they do not do the full distance combat, which allows them to fire salvos at different arcs, that arrive simultaneously.

I have also read somewhere, that some artillery shells now have "last meters" impact guidance (somewhat similar to guided bombs). I can not find that article though.

Oh, thanks man! It was an interesting read
The bayraktar's performance this war has earned it a Ukrainian war song: https://youtu.be/iiaYZ3tpqRg
Looks like it just got taken down due to a copyright claim by "Clash Report"?
Whoops. There are many different uploads of this song and it is hard to tell which is the original (if it is on YouTube in the first place).

This one should work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=828xmcujEaI

Otherwise, just searching for 'bayraktar song' on YouTube should result in several playable videos with the bayraktar war song.

Funny is that Putin and Erdogan sometimes are almost “friends”, but those drones made by a Erdogan’s family member are doing a lot of damage to Russia. Same in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
I think once the Russian air force is actually pulled into the war it's going to be significantly less effective. And that's what Ukraine is really worried about.

I'm not 100% sure on why Russia is holding back their air force in this conflict but once it's engaged it's going to go very poorly for the Ukraine soldiers if they don't have a way to assert control of their airspace.
