One significant thing this article misses is Justin Sun's significant personal stake in the new "environmentally conscious" proof-of-space crypto called Chia (created by Bram Cohen). [0]
sigh another verge expose full of bloated graphics
>Brash and outspoken, Tron founder Justin Sun has always been a controversial figure in crypto.
Is there anyone who is not controversial? The whole industry is just fomo, hype, borderline or outright con artists, undelivered promises.
To go to jail for fraud you have to generally take money from someone. That's why Madoff died in jail. Smart criminals will stay clear by creating a product that acts as an intermediary between the victim and the criminal. So selling an inflated, useless token for example. Or worthless supplements. This accomplishes the same thing as fraud but now it's "making of a material misrepresentation of fact", which is not as punished as severely as wire fraud.
I'm sorry, but I took one look at the page, and tried to scroll (on a desktop mind you, other people are complaining about mobile, which I can easily imagine as being 10x worse), and I closed the page.
This is nonsense. I'm aware my browser has a reader mode: I shouldn't have to use it just to be able to read.
This makes me sad. Crypto is filled with scam artists and centralization and nefarious dealings.
but... The things some coins (And i hate naming specific coins because there are alot but) Polkadot, Filecoin, Solana and many other coins are doing is astounding. They have real rock solid teams and plenty of funding. Should these coins succeed in their mission, technology will be forever changed.
Don't invest in coins just because you think they will rise. In the long term, it will just create more shitcoins at the cost of the real technological next steps. So, before you buy the next shiba just because it might 100x, remember you are voting with you money at a cost of your otheer coins you actually beleive in.
If you can get all the node operators in a Discord to coordinate a full restart of the network every time it crashes due to fundamental design flaws, your system is not decentralized.
Your comment is pretty disingenious ... Solana has processed more transaction volume than any other protocol combined. Also, coordinating hundreds of node providers to restart the system is entirely different than a coordination of malicious code or changes. And 'decentralization' might be a tenet of early crypto/ Some people but it's being lobbed around now as an insult. I like crypto for what it can do and how it can bring finance to the masses, not some anarcho-capitalist ideals.

Vitalik Buterin does not fit the bill you describe. His ideas may be controversial, but he's far from a scammer.
Out of interest, any others? From the many thousands in the industry?
