Ask HN: Which Prebuilt Linux to Buy?

2 points by ss108 ↗ HN
Hi,

I'm considering buying a pre-built Linux computer of some kind. Am I correct that Dell is the best option for this? I previously purchased a System76, but it was rather cheaply made and performance degraded heavily after ~2 years.

Open to either desktop or laptop.

edit: one other thing I should mention is that it would be great if it were well-suited for gaming.

Thanks

I've always had good experiences with the Dell Developer edition laptops but I don't have enough datapoints to say it's definitely the best option. For desktops, generally getting Linux preinstalled is not a big deal as long as you do a little research to make sure it doesn't have some bleeding edge card or chipset that isn't well supported in Linux yet.

I've had a great experience with Lenovo ThinkStation p330 Tiny, without the Nvidia GPU option, in terms of compatibility and performance on Linux - it feels very snappy. I imagine later models are similar.
