Hey HN commmunity, Karthik here! Super stoked to announce the launch of Zipy today.

Launching the product that you've been so dearly working on for months is like sending your newborn to school for the first time. Excitement to nervousness, anxiety to thrill, all sorts of emotions hit you at the same time. But the entire team of Zipy is confidently looking forward to the feedback you guys have in store for the beautiful product we’ve built. In community we trust!

Over the past decade, from being a Web Development Intern to a UX Designer and a Product Manager, I have seen the struggles that both Frontend Dev and Product teams face in terms of understanding user behavior and debugging customer issues. Web technologies evolved significantly, but the debugging process still remained in the stone age. With Zipy, we are trying to change this.

Zipy is a product that is primarily of the developers, by the developers and for the developers, essentially built to scratch our own itch, and thus, we've carefully handcrafted various workflows specifically for engineering, product, and support teams. We have been extremely lucky to get support from a bunch of awesome early adopters and partners, who were instrumental in carving our product experience. Hope you all find Zipy very useful. Please give it a try and do share your feedback here: https://app.zipy.ai/sign-up

Easy Slack Integration and Alerting

Special Coupon for HN Community: 'ZIPYPH1MONTH' for a FREE 1 month access to our Startup Plan.

Looking forward to your feedback and support.

Fix what matters, Karthik and Team Zipy.

Hey,

Looks an interesting product, is there a free trial available? Also, do we get to see the live sessions?

Yes Amey. Thanks for your interest. May I know what your exact use-case is?

And to answer your questions:

1. It's a freemium product with a lifelong free plan with upto 2000 sessions per month. And we do have a free trial on our startup plan for 14 days, which give you access to the advanced features. (We are giving away a 1 month free access for HN community - details are available in my comment.)

2. Yes. As soon as you install Zipy SDK, sessions and errors captured start flowing into the dashboard almost in real-time. And you can also watch the live sessions, with a 1 minute delay.

This was easy to try it out. Integrating it with issue trackers (like github, jira etc) would make this really interesting.
Thanks for trying out rnavi. We do plan to integrate with the likes of JIRA and Github as the issues can be directly logged in.TTR and velocity measurement would become easy and correlation between customer issues and tickets resolved would be simpler. Would like to understand your use case for github integration? Is it for ticket creation or something else?
Congrats on the launch!

Sorry if this is a silly question, but how does this differ from a tool like LogRocket?

Thanks cvburgess. The basic version around session replay is similar to logrocket but we are building a lot more around business specific use cases which help bubble signal over noise and allows developers to prioritise what matters for the customers and business.
This looks kinda similar to smartlook.com which we've been using for many years now. It also has error logging, devtools, etc and even the pricing looks kinda similar. Was zipy inspired from that?

Anyway, I really like smartlook and I do feel it's a life saver for any developer. Since I only know about the former what benefits zipy offers over it? Our contract is expiring in 2 months so I would be definitely be interested in hearing what this offers.

Also my biggest pain point with smartlook is that ublock, adblock, etc block smartlook by default. Since almost everyone is using adblockers these days a lot of info is lost. I think you guys would be faced with the same concern sooner or later. I think a self-hosted JS version can fix that.. do you have any plans for that?

ghoomketu, the session replay and error monitoring may look similar to smartlook but our vision at Zipy is to build business intelligence on top of this. That would allow users to tie business use cases to the session replay + monitoring. We want to bubble up what is important for business.

Yes adblocks could pose an issue but we have plans of self hosted solution and there are other options of handling this which we are already exploring.

I'm trying to imagine what products are so buggy that no human can process the mountains of problems, and they need AI to determine which session replays to surface
As we scale up products and more complex code workflows gets added, there are bound to be more issues as a result of which it then becomes problem of prioritisation and not just solving bugs. AI will help prioritise which sessions to surface and solve for.
I’ve looked into a couple of such tools a while ago and went for openreplay - mostly because I can opt to self host it anytime a project get‘s enough traction to justify the higher cost vs being compliant with european data protection law as well as catering privacy aware customers. Is there a way to self host zipy?
Valid point nkmnz, I understand your issue for both GDPR and self hosting. We have a self host option coming up in our roadmap.
Sentry also have a self hosted option, it's hidden in their documentation.
What's your strategy to compete against Microsoft Clarity? It's free.
There is a lot more intelligence around business use cases being built inside Zipy compared to say Clarity or SmartLook or FullStory. We have plans to focus more on developer needs and build deeper integrations with GitLab, slack and JIRA to solve for these.
Will this work in vanilla javascript / react in chrome extension or is it directed to webpages?
ortenheim, we are exploring this and is in our roadmap. Is there anything in particular you are looking at? Would really like to understand your use case, if possible.
Your HN description doesn't really explain what your product even is or what it does exactly.

I'm glad you're excited about it, but without a more focused and clear explanation about why or how this will help or be interesting to me, I won't click the link.

Audience attention is a limited resource.

(I'm not trying to be a jerk, only giving feedback I hope you find useful, and boost your reply count)

Good luck and best wishes, sincerely!

metadat, Thank you for the feedback. Zipy is primarily a debugging and monitoring tool that provides a functionality to record and replay user sessions along with all details related to a session including and not limited to the errors/breakages in frontend or network api calls. This helps the project teams to identify and debug customer issues proactively, quickly and prioritize them based on the impact and business intelligence we build over it. Hope this answers your question.
The large challenge I run into with session replay is with shadow dom and web components.

I use this extensively and many popular frameworks like Ionic are based upon or at least support web components.

Are you able to support full session replay with web components and shadow dom?

Yes, shadow dom replay is something we intend to support. In fact, we've recently worked on it and will be releasing the support in the next couple of weeks. Thank you for bringing this up.
Really cool landing page, looks very modern.
Thank you so much! Please try out the product and let me know your feedback.
By the way, what kind of product do you work with? Would be great to know your usecase.
