Dry/Irritated Eyes?

3 points by MathCodeLove ↗ HN
Naturally being a SWE I spend a lot of time in front of the computer, recently it seems like my eyes can't handle much screen time though. This morning it was especially bad and after just 30 minutes I had to get off the computer and close my eyes. But even on "good" days I may get a couple of hours at most before it's too much to handle.

I've tried eye drops, I've tried practicing good eye hygiene (blinking, looking away every X minutes, etc), I even just bought a pair of swimming goggles to hopefully trap moisture.

It's making it very difficult to get much work done and I'm worried I'll have to change professions entirely if it doesn't fix itself soon.

Any suggestions? I'm seeing my optometrist on the 24th but I'm worried they'll just tell me there's nothing to be done.

Based on a cursory reading of the links you provided I don't believe so, but I'll still be sure to mention if to my optometrist just in case, thanks for making me aware of the condition.
This link says to use 'baby shampoo' : https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/blepharitis

Only use J&J 'No More Tears' 'baby shampoo' (Without Conditioner)

Also Wash your face Daily with Sorbolen lotion, and rinse off.

Are you taking any Meds that may effect your Lipid production?

ie. do you have dry skin as well?

Edit: Always check with your Doctor / Ophthalmologist

Be sure to keep an eye on humidity in your room. I had the same problem until I've got a basic air humidifier and I feel much better now. I can work the whole day without problems.

You can try eink displays but there are still very expensive and refresh rate is subpar even for coding. They're excellent for reading though, much less taxing on eyes than usual tablets or phones.

Good call on the humidifier, I'll buy one today. I wasn't aware e-ink displays even existed outside of the classic kindle haha. I'll check them out but if they are as expensive as you say may only buy one as a last resort.

Thanks!
