Did software engineers break the hiring process?

I remember that when I started there were only two interviews: manager and HR. Now every company has at least a couple engineers doing interviews and we all know how great it's going.

Manager and HR are still part of it. Only engineers are new. And they also brought leetcode, gotchas and "explain in 5 minutes this code I took a day to prepare".

I think the way to fix it is the create a website called stupid interview questions and allow people to post about company's stupid interview questions anonymously.

And if a company requests to take it down and keep the list public of how many times the had a question removed, now you have some kind of pressure to come up with a better process.

Until non-technical Managers and HR have the ability to identify if someone has the skills their engineering teams need, this seems a necessary step.

Other industries have certifications and such to help with that. There's a lot less uncertainty about skills in other professions.

I'm not sure how to "fix" this problem. Maybe we need more technical Managers and HR people. Maybe we need certifications for candidates to earn. Maybe it's not actually a problem at all. It's hard to say.
