Did software engineers break the hiring process?
I remember that when I started there were only two interviews: manager and HR. Now every company has at least a couple engineers doing interviews and we all know how great it's going.
Manager and HR are still part of it. Only engineers are new. And they also brought leetcode, gotchas and "explain in 5 minutes this code I took a day to prepare".

[ 1.7 ms ] story [ 19.7 ms ] threadAnd if a company requests to take it down and keep the list public of how many times the had a question removed, now you have some kind of pressure to come up with a better process.
Other industries have certifications and such to help with that. There's a lot less uncertainty about skills in other professions.
I'm not sure how to "fix" this problem. Maybe we need more technical Managers and HR people. Maybe we need certifications for candidates to earn. Maybe it's not actually a problem at all. It's hard to say.
