My ID is one of the last reasons I need to carry a wallet around with me. It would be so freeing to just use a smart device to access identity restricted services (TSA, Liquor store, etc). Can’t wait for this to hit my state.

I don’t love the idea that my data is shared in a central DB, but honestly it’s way better than using a wallet which is much easier to lose or misplace!

Now your phone is the single poi t of failure. Smh.
A single point of failure for what? If you lose your physical ID you don’t have a failover; same with your credit cards.

Having copies of your cards in your phone actually makes the whole system not a single point of failure.

I see that once there is the digital "more convenient" way, the paper way will go away and the fight for it will be hard.

Also, ifyou are out with only a phone and no battery, there is also no failover.

I can't wait to get a ticket for driving without a license because my phone ran out of power.
I mean the easy solution is the keep a back up hard copy in your lockable glovebox, or just a cable for your phone which I imagine is already in your car?
In which case why do I need it on my phone?

I would much rather provide a physical license than hand my unlocked phone to law enforcement.

The ID would be kept in the glove box as a backup as you would take your phone everywhere.
Driving without a license is different than driving without a copy of your license. The police can look it up in their car.
In most countries I've lived in, and I believe most (if not all) states in the US, you are required to present your license upon request. That the police could "look it up" isn't relevant.

For instance in CA, CVC12951 makes it an infraction to drive without your license in your possession, and a misdemeanor to not provide it upon request by a LEO

In practice the police just look it up when you don't have it, same with insurance. If you are unpleasant or the cop had a bad day they might write you a fine but I've never heard of that happening.

They look your license up anyway when they get to their car to validate it isn't revoked.

I just make sure to have a picture of my license on my phone (which I realize in this specific situation wouldn’t help but who doesn’t have a charger in their car?) so the officer can just type in my license number and it’s never been an issue.
That is not actually how it works in practice if you do not have your license. That is your personal anecdote.
Dumbest thing ever. Literally no one needs this. A paper license doesnt die of low battery and cant be revoked remotely
Or ya know it can be a benefit to people who want to only carry their phone instead of their phone and wallet. Nothing is stopping you from also having a physical ID.
Why do you speak for others? I personally cannot wait for this. Furthermore, licenses can absolutely be revoked remotely. You may still possess the physical license but it can register as suspended in databases.
I speak for others when everybody pushes for this new closed tech and then it becomes harder to do things without it. The sound of people pushing for convenience becomes deafening. Like filing taxes is not possbile anymore without creating an account or the extra steps required for the Social Security website with a hard to find non digital recourse.

Sure there can be physical cards for now, but soon those physical cards will be taken away with some lame excuse. The increasing use of CLEAR to "expedite" airport check in the name of convenience when it is a private company using it to create a massive facial recognition database comes to mind. I do not consent to that but the convenience advocates will make me.

Ironically, you are correct. Driving in Arizona doesn't require a driver's license.
