Stellarium is a free GPL software which renders realistic skies in real time with OpenGL. It is available for Linux/Unix, Windows and macOS. With Stellarium, you really see what you can see with your eyes, binoculars or a small telescope.
I am not an astronomer, but it's real good to help you name the stars you see above where you live. It's fun to do that with kids. Free software at its best !
Exactly, also you can see what the sky looks like in different locations and at different times, and learn the properties of celestial bodies.
v.022 sounds like alpha or beta. I used it years ago and it was good and feature-rich.
