YMMV on Sadhguru. Some people think it a cult like organization: https://www.quora.com/Is-Sadhguru-a-cult-leader

If you want some genuine, grassroots, woman led, action in this area, Vananda Shiva is very well respected: https://humansandnature.org/vandana-shiva/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vandana_Shiva

I don’t care about the sex/gender status of people because sexism is bad, so it seems weird to have people use it as a positive thing to point out.
>woman led

Why the pointless gendering? All genders are capable of leading action, including women, men, and non-binary.

Vananda Shiva IS an ecofeminist. I think it highly relevant. Clearly all people are capable of being activists. But in this case, she happens to make an explicit point of her movement being woman led. This is especially relevant in the cultural context of her movement in India.
So, a man can't be an ecofeminist?

And I really want to know what relevance you think Vandana Shiva has in India.

> Some people think it a cult like organization

It most definitely is.

> If you want some genuine, grassroots, woman led, action in this area, Vananda Shiva is very well respected

Vandana Shiva and her ilk are responsible for pushing the brain-dead organic policies that have devastated Sri Lanka: https://theprint.in/world/how-sri-lankas-overnight-flip-to-t...

Cannot believe that this fraud has come up on the front page of hackernews! He's a charlatan. He has amassed massive amounts of wealth by running similar campaigns previously.
Interesting do share your sources
This is a movement to save our soil. All lives depends on it, and we have only about 50 years till a major catastrophe. This is not about a person or any organization. This campaign isn't seeking any donations either.

So, whatever we believe in, like or dislike. Let's make the issue heard, so that something concrete and actionable is done by our policy makers.

Thank you!

> This is a movement to save our soil.

No, this is yet an other unscientific and nonsensical publicity stunt by Jaggi Vasudev.

> So, whatever we believe in

What if I believe that Vasudev is a charlatan and that Isha is a cult for yuppies?

Also, how come one can't leave a missed call to save soil like the last time?

Direct link to the video for those on mobile: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCHqnkR7600

The problem they mention is the soil being exposed to direct sun and the solution they propose is that farming should be done under tree shade. That sounds absolutely baseless and nonsensical... and counter-productive.

Look at these videos for a completely different view of soil protection:

It's not senseless at all. Cows also prefer shade rather than direct sun when it's warm. Like we do. :-)

There are no unique best way to protect soils. Different approaches may work on the same spot depending what you want to produce. In all cases, even if one approach may really be by far the best in one location, another approach will be required a few miles away.

> Cows also prefer shade rather than direct sun when it's warm

Yeah, because cows are not plants. Plant actually need sunlight to survive.

> There are no unique best way to protect soils

Yes, but Sadguru is going with already popular "Team Trees" nonsense. Trees are terrible for grasslands. You will absolutely destroy the grassland ecosystem if you randomly plant trees... primarily because trees block the sun. All our grains are grass. They need direct sunlight. Shade kills them. That's why there's no grass in dense forests.

So, after the bullshit Rally for Rivers publicity stunt[0], Jaggi Vasudev is back for an encore?

How on earth did this nonsense upvoted on HN?

I understand you hate him for whatever reasons but not everything you read on the internet is real. Regardless it's not about Sadhguru. It's about the soil

Pls Read more, - https://www.bbc.com/future/bespoke/follow-the-food/how-to-br... - https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-00158-8

Sadhguru is meeting with and raising the issue with key policy makers, influences and the public on the way! We are ministers, heads of states, actors, sports personalities, news channels, youtubers, podcasters, etc. So this 30,000km journey is really helping.

A policy book is also being prepared accommodating features and conditions from each geographic region with specific and actionable guidelines. This could be adopted as formal governmental policy directly.

Thank you!

> Regardless it's not about Sadhguru. It's about the soil

No, it is about Jaggi Vasudev needing a new publicity exercise.

> not everything you read on the internet is real.

This is rich coming from who linked to a video claiming putting soil under shade is what is need for conservation. No mention of something actually useful like no-till agriculture. But then again, actual solutions don't lend themselves into the awareness slacktivism that this scheme is all about.

Outlandish nonsensical ideas are entirely par for course when it comes to Jaggi Vasudev. After all, this is the galaxy brain that gave us past hits like:

- Children should not be vaccinated for flu[0]

- Depression is caused by overeating and lack of exercise[1]

- Mercury can be solidified by energizing it and is not toxic[2]

- Food turns to poison during an eclipse[3]

- Cancer is not a disease[4]

> We are ministers, heads of states, actors, sports personalities, news channels, youtubers, podcasters, etc.

You left out the largest demographic: Clueless yuppies regurgitating fashionable nonsense. And it's rather telling that you didn't include farmers. Because again, this is about visibility and publicity. Not about actually doing something useful.

> So this 30,000km journey is really helping.

Oh, I'm sure its doing wonders for his brand. Say what you will, the man knows how to market.

> A policy book is also being prepared accommodating features and conditions from each geographic region with specific and actionable guidelines. This could be adopted as formal governmental policy directly.

Right, because something as trifling actionable policy can wait. PR though must go on.
