Ask HN: Did Apple intentionally leave a door open for Jailbreaking?
.. and should every company do this?
Do you think Apple intentionally left a door open for jailbreaking iOS in the early days? Or in other words: Did Apple realize the potential jailbreaking had to catalyze innovation in this very new product category?
Apple had this new product and some sort of vision for it, but why limit yourself to your own company and a set of employees when you could leverage the creativity of any developer in the world?
In the early versions of iOS Apple did copy a lot of features from the jailbreaking community. One might argue that sooner or later Apple would have come up with these features anyway, but the community might have fast-tracked the development of the OS and the capabilities of this new device.
