Ask HN: What's the story behind Germany being against Google Street View?

As in the title, what's happened with Germany? Lot of western EU + nordic countries have strong privacy laws not just Germany yet they are the only one mostly "resisting"

The short version is that Google gave up on Germany because of the mass phenomenon of people requesting to have images their property blurred. So Google decided that Germany is not worth the effort. Even the existing images haven’t been updated in more than 10 years. As far as I know it’s not about the laws anymore, as the courts have settled the debate a while ago.
