I not so secretly "harbor" hopes for sea ports to find new liveliness, to be interesting new interlinked places. Buses and cars and bikes have pretty limited speed, limited over-surface area available, but a city on a big river or bay could potentially have really amazing reach/access... with a wing-in-ground transport, or hydrofoil, or other high speed vehicle. There's some fun speculative futures running around in my head- nice to hear there are some folks working on the tech, on making it happen.
Personally, I wasn't even aware this tech was possible. It sounds like an awesome way to electrify over-water travel without the drag / instability of pushing through the ocean.
I also harbor such hopes. Seaplanes are wonderfully versatile in where they can go, and these vehicles could also "sail" (in the air) where the water is too shallow for a regular vessel as long as the takeoff / landing areas are clear.
