The article quotes an analyst describing Musk’s bid as the beginning of the end for Twitter as a public company. I would say it will spell the beginning of the end of Twitter period. Imo, if Musk in fact acquires Twitter, he himself and the changes he is proposing will become a poison pill resulting in droves of users abandoning it. I, for one, will certainly be one of them.
The intolerant minorities that want to shut up everyone else wouldn't be missed. Unfortunately I am not taking to bank their promise of leaving twitter
The changes people are afraid of are Musk bringing back Trump and Alex Jones to the platform. Making Twitter more like 4chan and Bitchute in the name of free speech absolutism will turn it into a fringe place that drives people away.
Also, Twitter isn't a place for regular users. Other platforms go out of their way to make content go viral. The only content that goes viral on Twitter are posts from accounts that are already popular. Musk sees more value in Twitter than the average user because it's his microphone to his bootlickers.
That much won't change. In fact it will be extended to people who demonstratably don't deserve to have a soap box.
I think that's the point. I for one will be celebrating the death of Twitter if Musk manages to pull it off, as I think it is one of the worst parts of our modern world and is actively making the world a worse place.
Assuming you read the news, that is not true. It’s the communication and social channel of choice for modern journalists, and the way it’s used by said groups absolutely influences how news is covered.
I use Twitter in a way that makes it really hard for me to understand this comments.
