We are in the middle of a fertilizer shortage [1]. I guess that could speed things up

On the other side that type of farming would probably not be competitive in the global market, so implementing those measures would require detaching from global supply chains when it comes to the food markets, and develop local production of food just for consumption.

I'm not saying I don't believe you, and doing some research won't be a problem for most people here, but a few sources or maybe pointers in the right direction wouldn't hurt.

Btw telling people that there's a disaster headed their way and asking them to "do their own research" without any source or evidence may not be received well in ... well, in a society. Too many flat-earth qanon chemtrail pedo cabal believers around these days.

Especially when the OP ends their post with something like

> Soil revitalization is all we need to do!

it gives off very strong pseudoscience vibes. The world has hundreds of serious problems (nuclear proliferation, world hunger and social inequality to name a few) that have nothing to do with soil depletion. Trying to make one problem of the hundreds seem like the most serious thing ever and then offering an easy silver bullet-type solution like "X is all we need to do" just makes OP look super myopic and focused solely on their own favorite issue.

If you're going to make an alarmist post like that, I wish you would back up your claims with actual data and a deeper analysis of the situation. What you posted here is the equivalent of a low quality media article with no sources, designed to maximise engagement. There's not much substance. What's happening? Why? At why pace? What is the data that support this evidence? What about the data that indicates the opposite? How dangerous is this problem related to other problems we're facing right now? Why should we take care of the soil before anything else? What solutions have people tried? Are they working? How can we evaluate them? What about the people that have done nothing? Are they doing worse? How much worse? Who is working on this right now? How can we support them? How does this compare to giving money to the most effective charities? [1] How can we join them, help them?

The main alarmist assertion has been rebutted by @Botanygeek on twitter. I tend to turn to him whenever a newspaper reports on any environmental story, the same way we have to show scepticism every time a newspaper reports on any "x cures y" story.

Here are his thoughts in The New Scientist:

Please post some sources. I've heard about the severity of this problem multiple times before in the last couple of years so i'm open, but we need at least some data!
