I think ESG is a terrible plan. It will simply force governments to be subjects to investors. It was maybe meant well, but it will have the obvious effect that unaccountable "stakeholders" will form our new governments, simple as that. Voting becomes even more irrelevant here. Or new overlord would be named DEI, or DIE as I prefer it.
Not the the current situation with financial agencies is optimal, but this is probably the worst idea the older generation has had in the last 50 years and I don't know how young people can see a future for themselves. Well, it wouldn't really matter what they do anyway. Because the stakeholders will form the a new class completely dictating policy. Either you are rich now or your political participation will vanish. Without capital you simply have no stake in it.
It already is trillions of dollars heavy without any result. Even pure unfiltered greed is preferable to that so we could as well go back to that...
Do we not all conspire together, to make plans, etc? So what are we talking about?
The 'grand conspiracies'? Do grand conspiracies really exist? Is that impossible to conceive of? Is there any reason to think that heads of corporations, governments do conspire to gain the maximum benefit for themselves? Would money and power be a motive? Of course.
But when you say "conspiracy theory" this is intended as pejorative term to close down what may be an interesting investigation. You have labelled something, and now think you have got to the bottom of it. Wasn't that quick? Without looking at any of the evidence too!
Have you read the Great Reset by Klaus Schwab? He details the plan, or 'theory' if you prefer.
Nobody doubts that conspiracies do happen: there's a specific criminal charge for conspiracy, for example.
What people call a 'conspiracy theory', in the sense of what you've posted, is a type of discourse that's basically only persuasive to people with a psychological predilection for these kind of narratives, while to everybody else, it's obvious nonsense.
It's a bit like the Reichsbürgern in germany. They see themselves as uncovering hidden or uncomfortable truths about Germany. To outsiders, what they write is basically ridiculous, it's full of fundamental misunderstandings about how states and laws work.
Let's make a clear examples of what conspiracies are because otherwise we'll go around forever: Religions and cults fit the bill perfectly
They take money and labor from their followers and society (huge tax breaks and exemptions) and give nothing tangible back except the psychological pleasure given by meaning and the knowledge being in the "right" group which will go to heaven with angels or 72 virgins or something else.
If you agree with this then the laundry list is very very very long before you arrive to Schwab and the WEF, which is essentially just a nice hotel in Switzerland, and for all their faults you'll find many more people talking crazy and trying to take advantage of others in Silicon Valley which is becoming a fertile ground for cults but as we all know humans are masters at throwing stones while living in a house of glass.
With the difference that religion doesn't really affect the lives of everyone while these investor groups with trillions behind their back do very much influence policy.
Criticism of dogmatic religion restricting people was important several decades ago and still is in many countries. If you are living in a modern western country you are barking at the wrong tree. Or when was the last time a religion forced your hand?
> Or when was the last time a religion forced your hand?
There was this sort of pivotal day in September circa 20 years ago..
Also tax cuts and handouts to religions and cults cause a huge misallocation of the tax burden because it means that other parts of society have to fit the bill for them as they free ride. To the tune of trillions of dollars.
Also this is a startup board. Do we want to really talk about the cults of the Valley ranging from WeWork to crypto to other phenomenons which attract people talking crazy?
Scientology anyone? That's just one and evades taxes for hundreds of billions.
WEF, Economic Club of NY, Fed's Jackson Hole...all these events are like the celebration of moderation, equilibrium and balance, some would say boring.
It's the very last place a would-be global dictator would emerge from. They emerge from layer zero. At the population level, eg. from unions, new political parties, climbinng the ranks within secret services, or a non-member of the political establishment taking over from outside.
