We dont know yet do we? It'll take decades for the impacts to really be understood & felt. It feels good, feels nice to try to be taming this big gnarly wild world, but we're imposing consyraints, locking out outside possibility, and we might be cutting off better more open & more vibrant futures. We'll never know, and we'll have less & less room to experiment & find out.
Imo states should back projects to help users self-host, or federalize their communities. Better social media is more being possible, not just ever locking down & constraining the big platforms & everyone on them. Haugen seems to have no taste for anything but bigger tech on and on.
