There is very common situation on the Internets where comments may be more interestimg then the article they are referring to. Btw HN sorts most popular comments first, so reading few first branches only is OK.
I'm pretty sure HN has the common problem of most recommendation systems that earliest interesting comments have a significant advantage, and so if you have two branches that you read a really great comment may be lower down.
As far as I have understood, the order of branches is not forms on the time basis. Try going to not very popular topic on HN with few branches and upvote something. You will see that sometimes your upvote will change an order of branches.
Ugh, no. I'm too busy being fabulous to read every single comment people post.
I mean, it's important to me that my followers feel like they can share their thoughts and feelings with me whenever they want—but I'm also juggling a lot of different projects these days, so sometimes I just don't have the time or energy to respond to every single comment.
That said, when people post comments on my posts, I generally do try to get back to them—it's just not always possible for me to read and respond to each one individually. And I understand that can be frustrating for some people. But if the content is good enough, the comments will come!
If I'm passionate enough about the subject I will read all the comments, since it's nice to hear refreshing takes on subjects I naively assume I'm an expert on. If it's some political rant I just ignore it entirely. It's very easy to spot the people who love their politics on here.
