I wonder how big impact on environment the war in Ukraine has. I guess a huge one - massive fuel depots are burning as we speak, tanks are rolling with their 10l/1km consumption and definitely no DPF, etc. Perhaps UN should focus on stopping this war instead of compiling key takeaways.
Indeed the invasion of Ukraine is terrible all-round but the UN is already doing what they can to stop it. The UN is not some independent organization, it's member-based - but often it still cops direct criticism when the blame lies with the members.. For example, the UN Security Council can't do much about this war because Russia has veto powers - which is due to the very unfortunate fact that Russia has nuclear weapons and a key aim of the UN is to prevent nuclear war, which it does by trying to create discussion/consensus amongst nuclear powers. Even if Russia's veto was taken away, what could actually be done by the UN further to what is being done now?
There will be nuclear war if UN continues to do nothing, because Russians and Putin especially understand only strength. Given the events in Yugoslavia, they could be doing something. This anti-confrontation stance you speak of is obviously not working - we knew that at the very least since 2008 (Russian war in Georgia) and yet nothing was done - actually people appeased Russia even more instead of working to prevent further escalation, and not even 2014 stopped it.
