I suspect that's one of those "totally crackpot theories" that will later come to be considered far less cracked. We will find more evidence of humans running around the planet in prehistory, carrying things they valued. There's samples of fun drugs in places and times "they shouldn't be," too.
This was a fascinating read as I work in an industry with commercial scales. In 2022, and in most countries, the certification and calibration of commercial scales is pivotal to their safe operation in commerce to such an extent that noncommercial scales are actually marked 'not for commerce' in many cases. The process of certifying a commerce scale can easily triple its price, and annual certifications from us states aren't cheap either. The whole process is extremely formal.
In the US, forging weights and measurements still carries an unbelieveably stiff penalty that dates to English commerce. Uncalibrated scales can cost you a business license and are one of the few provisions an llc cannot protect you from. Its a direct form of interstate commerce fraud to have an uncalibrated, uncertified scale for commerce purposes and in many conservative agricultural states can and has landed C level employees in double digit prison terms.
