This is a substack primarily about covid:

> Ground Truths: > Facts, data, and analytics about Covid and other biomedical matters

Looks like someone is worried people will stop paying attention to him. One of the biggest challenges post covid is going to be unwinding all the profiteering and power structures that have used covid as a reason to proliferate

And thinking about this a bit more, there is a big "boy who cried wolf" issue here. If covid somehow did get worse, few people are going to care or take it seriously after all the BS that's gone on. People hear "variant B.whatever" and roll their eyes and just see a new way for officials and elites to try and tell us what to do. If we actually should be acting, many more won't compared to before covid when we might have believed some advice was for our own good.

The author seems reputable: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Topol

With a career like that, I doubt he's worried people will stop paying attention to him.

But you're right that nobody will care about new variants even if they are worse. Of course, that means a lot of people will get sick, but that's what's going to happen.

I'm still amazed how few Americans are capable of caring about the health and lives of other people, their neighbors, their communities. And thoroughly in denial that anything could ever befall their perfect selves.
