Wow, a lot of this is conceding that Flatpak is bad or flat-out wrong... I hope this person was just misinformed, because if this is the argument for Flatpak then I don't see much of a way forward.
My experience with Flatpak is that it sucks. Hard to work with, hard to get current versions of packages, hard to even use the CLI to inspect everything. Even the main flathub website was difficult to navigate and lacked detailed information about what versions of a package are available. Even installing a specific version is non-trivial and brought me back to Snap PTSD.
Every aspect of attempting to use a flatpak was terrible for me. This was two weeks ago.
The only thing worse than flatpak is that Ubuntu snap shit.
I hate to write these negative comments about these proposed future paths forward, but the reality of them is awful.
My plan is to stick with apt or yum for the foreseeable future.
