A lot of people (me included) were pretty mad when Google announced they would be ending the free G Suite.
Apparently Google has announced that G suite will still be free for personal use. You can keep Gmail with custom domains. You have to go into your admin account and confirm your account is for personal/family use.
If you already upgraded (like I did because I felt forced to until I could migrate to something else), there is a support path to downgrade to the G Suite free edition.
