Ask HN: Annoyed by opening too many browser tabs?

At the moment I'm annoyed (or preferably before) I delete tabs manually.

I can always find web pages in browser history. You can too, so never keep tabs open just so you can come back to them later.

For a while I used "OneTab" which gives you a button that closes all your tabs into a list of closed tabs that you can access later. That handles my hording instinct for pages I want to do something with, but never seem to get around to actually doing those things with.

I more recently have tried Toby, which lets me organize my open tabs into groups based ("next gen infrastructure research", "VPNs", etc). It also syncs across computers. But, I've been having problems with being able to drag and drop tabs into it recently, so it's kind of stuck, and I may have to try something else.

My solution, which I've used for a long time and love, is the extension Tab Wrangler (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tab-wrangler/egnjh...). It lets you set a time limit, and then closes tabs as they go that long without being opened. You can set up exceptions, and also tell it to not close tabs making noise. It's great. I open a bunch of tabs as I'm working on something. Then, when I've moved on to something else, those tabs magically disappear.

On a technical side: I came to the conclusion that displaying tabs horizontally is, well, stupid. Displaying them vertically is better. Tree Style Tabs for Firefox allows this. It also has hierarchies and folding. Hierarchies allows me to group related tabs. Folding allows me to "reduce the noise" by collapsing groups.

On a personal side: I've learned to let go.
