Hmm. I've changed it above - but given how confidently the original title says Mithradites and how carefully edited The Believer presumably is (was?), it's not obvious what's going there. Perhaps reading the entire article would clarify but I am le tired.

The article is about mithridatism, so it's a spelling error.

It's another one of those spelling mistakes: like rouge/rogue, pharoah/ pharaoh, racontuer/ raconteur etc.

It was unusual to see it misspelled in a title. The article text had it right.
