The author claims to be inspired by SL yet wants to go beyond it. Beyond it to what, exactly? And I would ask the same question of any "metaverse" platform. What does any of these companies have to make it a success when Second Life was niche at best?

In what universe would the metaverse become the "next hot item" when it has resolutely refused to gain traction beyond chat rooms for kids (Fornite) and for adult roleplay (SL and VRchat)?

The idea that the metaverse is a business at all is a fallacy. As Mark Cuban says of some Shark Tank contestants, "That's a product, not a business." SL failed as a product to get widespread interest. And nothing has changed. Today's "metaverse" hasn't progressed beyond SL one bit. Even that company open sourced the original software and gave up on its plans to build a replacement.
