Americans thinking that USA is the whole world. It's tiring to be locked in USA-centric world view. I'm learning other langues to learn different perspective but that isn't easy in english-first internet. (I'm not English native.)
Low skill means anyone can do it with a few hrs of training. It is a useful label. Accusations of racism must be founded in fact and not be thrown around carelessly
I’m not American, but in my view the author confuses one sort of skills with the other. Of course you have to adjust to a job, learn a thing or two and optimize few edge cases. We call that experience, skills that come with events naturally. But it doesn’t come naturally when you have to operate a company, raise a building, manage a contract, drill a tooth, etc. Getting these skills through trial and error is not only uneconomical but sometimes harmful or criminal. You may create a separate word for it, but it will be used as an euphemism to the exact phenomenon, because these don’t go away with renaming.
Cargo culting is getting out of hand. Seems to be an ever growing segment of the population, lead by journalists and media figures, who think you can change the substance of reality by slapping a coat of paint on anything to look like whatever you want it to be.
