We never got good at recycling plastic. Some states are trying a new approach (npr.org)

This is not likely to change anything. Producers will just pass the tax on to the consumer.

Until we create a system of disposal that requires sorting and recycling by waste management companies nothing is really going to change (short of outlawing plastic).
