Ask HN: How to manage (legally) a geographically distributed community?

Open source community with people from all over the world. Need some kind of legal entity for sharing resources, such as money, domain names, infrastructure. Mutual trust works very well until the community is small. As the community grows, how is it possible to create a legal entity between people that are geographically distributed?

Very broad and difficult problem. Entire teams at investment banks dedicate themselves to this. Usually islands are involved. Without more information, I would suggest centralizing IP and control into one entity in a jurisdiction you feel comfortable with, which then licenses or has contracts with various entities and people around the world.
